Thieves burglarize summer homes at Lake of the Woods

A couple of thieves are taking advantage of the snow birds living on the lake in a community outside of Bremen.

About half a dozen homes have been burglarized in Lake of the Woods.

Police say it’s happened on the west side of the lake in the middle of the night.

The thieves are targeting homes that have unshoveled driveways and only occupied half of the year.

Neighbors say it's an unusual case considering the lake hasn't had much crime except for car break-ins.

Thieves have been stealing furniture but leaving the electronics.
“We've never had any problem here,” says homeowner Mike Jones. “I went 29 years without locking my door and now all of the sudden now we've got this stuff going on.”

Since the burglaries neighbors have become more vigilant and let their neighbors living out of town know what's going on. Some have gone so far as to create tracks in an unmarked driveway. In the meantime police haven't released any information about any possible suspects.
