Sometimes that big Thanksgiving meal can come with a side of guilt.

Americans eat an average of about 4,000 calories and 229 grams of fat on Thanksgiving Day.

There is something you can do to keep from getting weighed down. The Niles-Buchanan YMCA hosts a Thanksgiving Day Run every year.

More than 2,200 people ran in 2011 and helped raise $25,000 for the YMCA.

“That’s a huge part of the scholarship money we need for the year,” Doris Higgins of Niles-Buchanan YMCA says.

Races range from a 1-mile fun run, to a 5k and 10k. Register online or at the Niles-Buchanan YMCA.

“It’s a challenging run, particularly the 10k,” says Ben Daniel, who has run almost every year since 1999. “If you love hills, this is the run for you.”

They are also looking for volunteers.
