Teen who brought explosive to fair can't be tried as adult

LaPorte County, Ind. A 16-year-old boy, accused of bringing an explosive device into the LaPorte County Fair, cannot be tried as an adult because of state law. That's according to our reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth.

The county prosecutor says if he had been caught trying to set it off they may have been able to waive him to adult court, but since he was just carrying it around and doesn't have a criminal history, they can't.

The teen, who said he only intended to scare people with the homemade “sparkler bomb”, was arrested on July 1st, along with another teen who reportedly tried to intervene. Officers say they don't believe the second teen was involved in the plan.
