One of four teens charged in a botched home invasion last month that left one person dead has pleaded guilty.

Jose Quiroz, 17, entered the guilty plea for murder Thursday in Elkhart Circuit Court for his role in the shooting death of his friend, who also took part in the break-in.

In exchange, he will serve 45 years in prison and 10 on probation.

His three co-defendants, Blake Layman, 17, Levi Sparks, 17, and Anthony Sharp, 18, are also each facing one charge of felony murder.

Their jury trial is scheduled for January 17.

Back on October 3, the four teens and Danzele Johnson, 21, broke into a home in the 19,00 block of Frances Ave.

The homeowner confronted the intruders and fired a gun, killing Johnson and injuring Layman.

While the teens did not pull the trigger, under Indiana law, their involvement in the home burglary makes them responsible for their friend's death.

The family of Blake Layman, has started an online petition to get the teens' charges reduced. As of Thursday night, it has more than 1,200 signatures.
