A teen convicted of shooting and killing her boyfriend now wants to withdraw her initial plea of “guilty.”

According to the Herald Palladium, Destiny Coulson of Berrien Springs was convicted of second degree murder after shooting David Quinn Jr. in the face with a shotgun. The shooting reportedly took place after a night of drinking at Quinn’s parents’ house on Jan, 24, 2012, when Coulson was only 16 years-old.

Coulson is serving 14 to 30 years in prison after she entered a plea deal on Sept. 10. Prosecutors at the time agreed to drop a felony charge of use of a firearm and sought a lesser sentence. Her current lawyer, Laurel Kelly Young, alleges Coulson had poor legal representation when she agreed to the deal.

Now, a Berrien County Trial Court Judge, Gary Bruce, says he will set a hearing about the matter but has not yet selected a date.
