A major part of the Affordable Care Act will go into effect January 1, 2014 and Michiana hospital are gearing up for the launch of the health insurance marketplace.
The marketplace will offer different levels of coverage ranging from Medicaid to regular premiums. Prices for health insurance will depend on family size and income.
Newscenter 16 teamed up with the United Way of St. Joseph County to answer questions about the changes during Take Charge Thursday.
St. Joseph Regional Medical Center has been preparing for the new health insurance format. Just a few weeks ago, the hospital opened up a health insurance services office in its lobby.
While people can access more information about the marketplace by visiting healthcare.gov, there will also be “navigators” on staff to help guide people through the enrollment process.
You must enroll by December 15 to have coverage starting January 1.
Those who choose not to enroll in coverage and do not have a job-based health plan will have to pay a penalty fee of $95 or one percent of their income, whichever is greater.
