Elkhart County, Ind. The LaGrange County Sheriff's Department says the vehicle of a convicted murderer who escaped prison in Michigan Sunday night has been located in Shipshewana. They are telling the public to please avoid the area. Westview Schools have been notified and are on lock down.
40-year-Michael David Elliot, who was convicted in 1993 of four murders and is serving five life sentences, is still on the loose.
Michigan State Police have released surveillance photos of the prisoner, who escaped late Sunday night in Ionia, Michigan, allegedly carjacked a woman, and took her all the way to Elkhart County where he stopped for gas.
The woman was able to lock herself in a bathroom and call 911 but the man, believed to be Elliot, got away.
Our NBC affiliate WSMV in Nashville says early Monday morning a woman thought she spotted Elliot at a Tennessee gas station, but police say it was a mis-identification. Elliot has family in Tennessee.
His whereabouts remain unknown.
