BENTON HARBOR Benton Harbor High School students are sounding off about the latest round of pink slips handed out in the district.

English language arts teacher Jason Wolf was recently laid off, along with five other teachers. According to WSJM, students turned in a four-page petition, full of signatures asking for his reinstatement.

Benton Harbor superintendent Dr. Leonard Seawood says it wasn't an easy decision to make, but he says if the district doesn't make the cuts, the state will do it for them. More than 80 percent of the district’s budget goes to staff salaries, so he says they couldn’t avoid layoffs.
