A Stevensville teen was sentenced Monday after pleading no contest in the beating death of his mother's boyfriend.

Josh Smith, 16, was sentenced to one year in jail, and four years probation.

Smith was charged with voluntary manslaughter in the death of David Loveland, 44.

He is receiving credit for the past 180 days already spent in jail towards his one year sentence.

Back in September, police say Loveland and Smith got in a fight over a family member, and Smith kneed Loveland in the head.

The blow proved fatal.

Smith was facing up to 15 years behind bars.
