JENISON, Mich. State officials are looking into the apparent suffocation of a 100-year-old woman found between her mattress and bed rail at a western Michigan adult care home.

MLive.com reports Wednesday that the state Department of Human Services Bureau of Children and Adult Licensing is conducting an investigation after being notified of Sarah Bredeweg's death at the facility in Jenison.

The investigation could take three months.

Ottawa County sheriff's Capt. Mark Bennett has said it appears Bredeweg slipped between the mattress and bed rail sometime over the weekend.

Bennett told the newspaper that Bredeweg was able to care for herself at the assisted living facility southwest of Grand Rapids.
