Plans are moving forward for a new Starke County Jail facility near Knox.

WKVI reports that commissioners approved a motion to accept the scope of work.

Originally the estimated cost was about $11 millio, which was too high. Since then they've brought it down to about $10.3 million.

An official with the Skillman Corporation says the project should be ready to submit bids in two weeks, with a groundbreaking ceremony in November.

There will be an informational meeting for the public on July 22nd at 5:30 to talk about the jail plans. You can also get tours of the existing building and see construction plans.
