Funeral arrangements have been announced for a longtime public servant of South Bend who died earlier this week at the age of 78.
John Stancati was elected to the school board in 2010 and represented the second district.
Stancati, who had lived in South Bend since the age of 12, was very involved in the community.
He served several years as director of the South Bend Water Works, founded the Summit Club and was currently working part-time as a bailiff for the juvenile justice center.
Stancati died Thursday night from an extended illness.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Palmer Funeral Home. It's located in the 3700 block of South Michigan Street on the city's south side.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.
