St. Joe Open Book Family Fest gets children excited about reading

The St. Joseph County Public Library had some famous guests today, from Cat in the Hat to some well known children's authors.

It was all part of the tenth annual Open Book Family Fest.

The day included performances by children's musicians and even a puppet show.

The goal is to get kids excited about reading early on, and some of the authors themselves were there to share their own stories.

Kris Springer, from the St. Joseph County Public Library says, “Having those live authors who actually are the ones who sit down and think of these amazing ideas and stories and showing them, this could be you. Getting them in here, talking about all this fun stuff...they go home and the wheels start turning. Who knows where it will lead.”

There were even free books given away to the kids in attendance.
