It's a program that hasn't been around for about eight years but Monday, it is back up and running. We are talking about the new curbside pickup program in St. Joseph County that was passed earlier this year.
The Curbside Leaf Collection Program is scheduled to begin Monday, November 11th. The Second one will begin November 20th.
If you want your leaves to be picked up there are a few things you need to know. Residents are asked to place leaves within five feet of the curb or shoulder prior to the start date. Only loose leaves will be collected, meaning you should not put leaves inside of a fence or in any type of bag. Leaves have to be at least 15 feet from mailboxes or other obstacles and at least 25 feet from any parked vehicles. Finally, do not place any debris, tree limbs, grass clippings, trash, brush, or any type other than leaves at the curb.
All residents within a neighborhood or subdivision in the areas south and west of the St. Joseph Valley Parkway will receive the two scheduled passes per the schedule above. Those that do not live within a neighborhood or subdivision in areas south and west of the By-pass are scheduled for “on-call” service. Meaning you have to call to set up a pickup.
If you have any questions you can contact the Leaf Collection Hotline Toll Free at 877-472-2735 or visit the program
