For the first time in more than 40 years Republicans will take control at the helm as county commissioners.
Tuesday St Joseph County's new probate Judge Jim Fox conducted the "swearing in" ceremony for six Republicans.
Two county council members, Dan Herbster and Mark Root, were sworn in.
Also former Mishawaka city council member Marsha McClure was sworn in as county commissioner.
It now means two Republicans, McClure and Andy Kostielney, will serve as commissioners.
For the first since 1970 the GOP will have control of the executive branch in St. Joseph county government. It’s a boost the party hopes will help them grow
St. Joseph County Party Chairman Deb Flemming says, “There are great people and great candidates in St Joseph County that run on the republican ticket. We need to show we will support them and give them all the help they need to move forward.”
The third county commissioner is democrat Dave Thomas.
Both the county and city council are controlled with a majority of Democrats.
