St. Joe Med Center hosts car seat clinic

Safety is always important especially when driving on the roads.

While buckling up secures you, what about your small children in the back seat?

The St. Joe Regional Medical Center held a car seat clinic today to make sure your kids are protected when you hit the road.

Nurses were joined by police and fire officials as they thoroughly checked and installed car seats and booster seats.

The public was encouraged to bring their children and toddlers to ensure their safety on the road.

Officers made sure each child was sitting in the appropriate seat and that each car seat was located in the correct area within the vehicle.

"Even if we get one car seat to check, that's a successful car seat clinic,” Lt. Tim Williams with the Mishawaka PD said. “Because now we know that child is going to leave safer than what they arrived in."

According to the Mishawaka Police Department, nine out of ten car seats are misused.

Securing your kids in the appropriate child restraints will reduce their risk of injury in a crash by up to 70 percent.
