South Bend residents will have to wait two more weeks for the South Bend Common Council to take up a new proposed smoking ban, after the bill was pushed back again Thursday.
Council Member and Bill Sponsor Valerie Schey says she and her co-sponsors need more time to work with the departments responsible for enforcing the proposed new ban.
The ban was supposed to go in front of the council next Monday, but now will be on Monday, July 23 agenda. The bill was also pushed back on June 25.
If it passes it will be tougher than the statewide law and ban smoking in the city's bars, but it would not apply to private clubs and fraternal organizations.
