You could say 2013 is the year of the rapids for South Bend. The East Race waterway will celebrate its 30th anniversary this summer.
The parks department says it is planning several special events to celebrate. Officials will announce details on their website and Facebook page in the coming weeks.
They will open for the season in June.
The east race is 1900 feet long. More than 270,000 people have enjoyed the waterway since it opened.
The parks department calls it the first man-made rafting course in the northern hemisphere.
