A South Bend woman will spend half-a-decade in prison for pouring boiling water on her boyfriend as he slept.
Tearsa Broadnax, 41, was arrested for the act on June 9, 2012, at her apartment in the 500 block of E. South St.
Broadnax told police she dumped the scalding water on her boyfriend, Rickey Clark, 52, in retaliation, after he physically abused her during a fight earlier in the evening.
Clark was seriously injured and taken to a Fort Wayne burn unit in critical condition with severe wounds to his arm. Police say they handled domestic disturbances at their residence before this incident.
In November, Broadnax pleaded guilty to Aggravated Battery, a class C felony. On Tuesday, Superior Court Judge Jane Woodward Miller sentenced Broadnax to five years in state prison for the crime.
