SOUTH BEND, Ind. - A South Bend woman has learned her punishment for filing false tax claims.
Last year, Gigi Riley, 33, pleaded guilty for her role in a tax fraud scheme that allegedly bilked the IRS out of $3.5 million.
This week, Riley was sentenced to 51 months in prison and ordered to pay around $2.5 million.
Prosecutors say nearly 1,200 tax returns were fraudulently submitted and inflated between the years 2008 and 2010.
Riley was out on bond, and had agreed to testify against her co-defendants in the case. when she was shot and wounded by an intruder last May at her home in River Park.
