SOUTH BEND, Ind. - South Bend will soon be home to the first fire safety training facility in Northern Indiana.
Tuesday was the dedication of the Luther Taylor Fire Safety Training Facility, named after South Bend's former fire chief.
Mayor Pete Buttigieg commended Chief Taylor for his years of service.
The training facility was a long time coming for the men and women of local fire departments.
The facility will house classrooms, a six-story tower, repelling building, and several fire simulators.
The fire department expects the facility to be finished in late April or early May.
It cost $5.5 million.
The city hopes to do state training there as a source of revenue.
