A South Bend sub-shop was court-ordered to close its doors Thursday, after a judge ruled a lease, that was supposed to run through 2015, void.
Jersey Mike's, located inside the former College Football Hall of Fame, will end operation by the end of February, likely even sooner, acoording to owner, Bob Guros.
Guros says the decision came as a total shock, and a disappointment. While community members say the move was likely inevitable, but still inconvenient, and disappointing.
City officials say the move is necessary and a smart decision "business-wise" for the city. An empty building will be easier to sell, and will save taxpayer dollars from the electricity costs to operate the restaurant.
The future of the downtown chain is uncertain, but for now, Guros says the cost to re-locate downtown is too high.
