Some South Bend 7th Graders got the chance to experience what it is like to be a college student Wednesday. It was all part of an experiential learning model put on by Ivy Tech.
The kids who participated were from South Bend Community School Corporation's Edison Intermediate Center. This is the fourth year that Ivy Tech has done this, it's a joint project with the University of Notre Dame and the City of South Bend.
“At this point, this age is when they start making the decision to attend college and even where they are going to go to college,” says Keith Branham the Ivy Tech Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs. “We were hoping that if we can get them in and show them something about college, it will light a spark with them and they will want to pursue college.”
During the Mock College Day the students applied for college, learned about financial aid, completed an assessment test, attended a new student orientation and two mini classes, and at the end. They even had a commencement ceremony
