South Bend softball team recognized Monday

South Bend, Ind. The South Bend Common Council spent part of Monday night's meeting recognizing a local softball team that's one of the best in the world.

The District 11 Under 16 Team won the Little League Senior Softball World Series earlier this month. They beat out Milan, Italy for the title.

Monday night the Common Council signed a resolution honoring the girls and presented them with a special plaque for their accomplishments.

“This is the home of Skylar Diggins, the LPGA, the home of American Youth on Parade; and here's one more fantastic example of how our community has the best of the best when it comes to women and girls' athletics,” says South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg

“This is a great accomplishment,” says South Bend Common Council Member Reverend Greg Brown. “It sets the precedent for the City of South Bend when they said we were a dying city.”

The team is made up of girls from several different South Bend high schools. They now hold the title of Senior Softball World Series Champions.
