South Bend schools are considering joining a coalition that is seeking to put Indiana in the Central time zone.
The school board is scheduled to consider a resolution April 8 to join the Central Time Coalition. The statewide volunteer-run organization wants to see all Indiana counties on Central time.
Most of Indiana is now on Eastern time, but parts of the state in the Chicago and Evansville areas observe Central time.
Board member Bill Sniadecki says he proposed the resolution because he gets many complaints during winter about how dark it is when school buses pick up children. Supporters say shifting to Central time would increase student safety.
