It is known as the "happiest 5K on the planet," and the worldwide event is making a stop in South Bend.

On Saturday, thousands will run about 3 miles through the streets of South Bend during the "Color Run." The 5K has made stops in cities like London, Tokyo, San Fransisco and Chicago.

Organizers say 60% of participants are first-time runners because the event is not timed. Runners of all abilities and ages are encouraged to participate.

In addition to the run, community members are invited to cheer on family members and friends in the "Fiddler's Hearth Green Zone" and at the Finish Festival.

Some of the proceeds from the event also go to benefit local charities. Each city has a different charity. In South Bend, funds from Saturday's event will go to "Make a Difference Michiana" and the Memorial Children's Hospital.

The Color Run starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, at Four Winds Field at Coveleski Stadium in South Bend.
