Saturday marks the one day a year that it's okay to buy stolen merchandise.
That's because the South Bend Police Department is doing the selling.
A variety of stolen items that were recovered by police but could not be reunited with their former owners will be auctioned off to the public starting at 8:30 on Saturday morning.
“Occasionally a lot of bicycles, lawn and garden equipment, we have everything from portable air conditioners to concrete cutting saws, we have a little bit of jewelry, quite a few electronics items,” said Capt. Phil Trent.
All sales require cash. The auction will be held at the Sample Street police station.
The doors open at 8:00 and the public will have a half hour to view items before the auction starts at 8:30.
