The cold and windy weather didn't stop one South Bend neighborhood from going out to spread some holiday cheer Friday night.
Dozens came out to the Festival of Lights in River Park to mark the Winter Solstice and kick off the Christmas weekend.
Neighbors put out 150 luminaries along the new River Walk Trail on Northside Boulevard. They dressed in fun holiday attire, and gathered to light the yule log and stroll down the luminary trail.
Those attending the event said it's a great way to show off their tight-knit community.
“River Park is a wonderful little place to live,” said Matthew Kent from Stone Circle Arts Center. “We have little festivals like this going on, and we're close to everything. We want to utilize the river, and this Luminary Path is a way to express that.”
After they lit the luminaries, the group took part in a Mummers Parade, making noise and singing Christmas carols.
