South Bend mayor explains emergency order

SOUTH BEND, Ind. South Bend mayor Pete Buttigieg stopped by the WNDU station Monday and stressed that it is important people stay off the roads.

While the main roads are in pretty good shape, there is still a lot of work to do and the combination of the cold and blowing snow is dangerous.

He told NewsCenter 16’s Maureen McFadden road crews have been working constantly.

“Primary's are looking pretty good if we don't get any new snowfall, I think secondary's will be squared away pretty quickly and this evening we want to be turning our attention to residential streets,” said Buttigieg.

He said it could take up to two days to have residential streets cleared.
