A sentencing hearing was held Thursday for a South Bend man accused in a violent home invasion nearly two years ago.
David O'Banion will spend 45 years in prison, with ten years suspended, plus a decade of probation upon release, after pleading guilty to felony burglary last month.
Back in June of 2011, police say he broke into the Northern St. Joseph County home of 94-year-old Verna Gushwa, who had hired him to cut her grass.
O'Banion started rummaging through her things, and when Gushwa caught him, he shoved her into a bathtub, where the elderly woman sat stuck and injured for hours. He was arrested later that day.
