South Bend man pleads guilty to role in a murder

A South Bend man has pleaded guilty to his role in a murder late last year on the city's northwest side.

Bryant Hunt, 28, admitted to the attempted robbery of Dietrich Perkins, who was shot and killed last November. A murder charge against Hunt was dropped as part of the plea deal. Hunt also agreed to testify against two others accused in the homicide.

Following Hunt's guilty plea, the state charged Freemond Jordan, 29, with murder, attempted murder and felony murder. He's been arrested and is currently being held without bond at the St. Joseph County Jail.

Forest Lamar Jr., 19, has also been charged with attempted murder for his part in the crime. He was arrested Tuesday in Iowa and is awaiting extradition to St. Joseph County, where he'll be held on bond.

Perkins, a 31-year-old Hammond native, was driving his car with a female passenger when the shooting took place.

His body was later found next to a dumpster on Lathrop and Johnson Streets.
