For the very first time, South Bend will be hosting a Pride Prom for adults on Saturday night.

The event starts at 9 pm when everyone 21 and over will go to “The Brick” in the 1100 block of Northside Blvd. to dance the night away.

The event is designed to celebrate the LGBTQ community and the diversity represented in our area.

Last month, Michiana resident Anton Murra rented a downtown marquee to ask South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg to the dance.

A spokesman for the mayor says that while he has family in town this weekend and will not be able to formally attend, he is hoping to make a quick appearance to show his support.

Tickets for the Pride Prom are no longer available, but the event will return to South Bend in 2014.
