SOUTH BEND, Ind.-- It's been a long time since we've seen the type of harsh weather last winter brought.
While the heavy snow meant cancelled work days for some, it meant extra work for plow crews.
Today, the City of South Bend held an appreciation luncheon to thank the city's snow removal experts for a job well done in difficult circumstances.
“These guys have been with it since thanksgiving, there was a period of time where they worked three straight weeks without a day off working 12 hour shifts,” said Deputy Mayor Mark Neal. “They missed their thanksgiving, they missed their Christmas, they missed their New Year’s, all to make sure that we're keeping the streets clean and keeping them safe.”
The free lunch was provided by the business organization, "Downtown South Bend" and Fiddler's Hearth.
