Add South Bend to a long list of cities advising homeowners to leave a little water running to avoid frozen pipes.

A number of people have called to complain about frozen pipes.

Technically in the city a homeowner is responsible for the water line while the city is responsible for a broken water main

But with these unusually cold weather conditions, South Bend has been bending the rules and helping out folks that have gone without water for weeks.

“It’s been tough. I’ve been going over to my girlfriend’s house to shower and we've managed,” says Mike Wardlowe.

In South Bend the department is advising people to run a small stream of water, even if you’ve never had frozen pipes.
