Over the course of last few weeks our nation has felt the effects of Hurricane Sandy. Areas out east are without power and struggling to recover.
Wednesday a South Bend school made it their mission to help out some of the victims from Sandy. Holy Cross Grade School on South Bend's northwest side is sponsoring a Stuff a Truck Event. Parents, student volunteers and local residents dropped off donations like coats, hats, gloves, and toiletries.
They loaded them into a moving van scheduled to leave for New Jersey Thursday morning. Many New Jersey families will be eagerly expecting the donations.
"We are leaving here, Thursday at 6 a.m., it will be in New Jersey Thursday evening, and it will be put to use Thursday night,” says Jim Caldwell the Parishioner of Holy Cross School. “By the time someone gets ready to go to bed, it will be in use."
Holy Cross is working with the Catholic Charities Program in New Jersey, both the school and the organizations welcome any sort of donation, including cash.
The truck will be stationed at Holy Cross until 7 p.m. Wednesday.
