SOUTH BEND, Ind.--- A South Bend park was booming with the sounds and smells of Latin America this afternoon.
It was part of the South Bend Police Department's annual Cinco De Mayo Festival.
The event featured cultural music and dancing as well as plenty of delicious food.
And, while it's meant to be lots of fun the festive afternoon helps police establish a connection with the local Latin community.
“It's not just about kids going up to the police officers but the parents as well,” said Juan Hernandez, President of the Latin America Chamber of Commerce. “They're able to speak freely about things happening in their neighborhood. Events like this build this relationship stronger and stronger.”
Of course most people's favorite part of the festival is the authentic Latino food.
