South Bend, Ind. Some curious South Bend Council Members continue to push for the public release of a State Police investigation into City Police Chief Ron Teachman.
A summary of the State Police probe was given to the Mayor's Office on Monday of this week.
Investigators looked into a citizen complaint that Chief Ron Teachman failed to back up his fellow officers last April, as those officers broke up a fight near the Martin Luther King Center.
Thursday, the Council Vice President said the incident could have carried serious consequences.
“That could be a life or death issue and so therefore when you're looking at public safety all of those matters, if it wasn't so much of a key issue I'm sure that others who were referred this matter never would have investigated it to the level they have,” says South Bend Councilman Oliver Davis.
Davis said the council has long made public safety its number one budget priority, in his opinion, the more information the mayor can release the better. The Mayor's Office Thursday said that a few days will be needed to assess the report.
