The city of South Bend is being asked to invest in the best and brightest young computer minds in the area as part of the Code for America Project.
In December 2012 South Bend was chosen as one of nine cities to participate in the Code for America Project which will send computer-savvy youth to town for a one year fellowship.
The teens who are part of the program will help develop web-based apps that address civic issues.
In order to close the high-tech deal, South Bend’s Redevelopment Commission is being asked to contribute $170,000 in tax dollars. An additional $190,000 will be contributed by private donors.
