Police across St. Joseph County are stepping up this weekend to help prevent drunk driving.
Alcohol contributed to more than 6,000 crashes and 158 deaths in 2012, and those are numbers officials are trying to reduce.
That is why police are setting up sobriety checkpoints this weekend, to catch drunk drivers before they can cause any harm.
The checkpoints will be up from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. both Friday and Saturday nights.
One will be on the northeast side of South Bend, and another on the southwest side of Mishawaka.
