Just seven months after playing her final game for the Irish, Skylar Diggins became the 5th player to enter Notre Dame Basketball's Ring of Honor, in a ceremony before the Irish women defeated Valpo 96-46 at Purcell Pavilion.
Diggins' #4 banner joins Austin Carr, Adrian Dantley, Luke Harangody and Ruth Riley in the arena rafters.
Now playing for the Tulsa Shock in the WNBA, Diggins led Notre Dame to three straight trips to the Final Four before graduating in May.
The South Bend Washington graduate was just on the court by her parents and shared plenty of hugs with Irish coach Muffet McGraw, assistants Niele Ivey, Beth Cunningham, Carol Owens, the Irish players and Notre Dame Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick.
"I'm so blessed to have the best 6th man in the land baby," Diggins told the Purcell Pavilion crowd. "I'm so blessed to have the support of South Bend and my family, who is the reason I am who I am standing up here today. I never wanted to leave this university. I grew up always wanted to go here and I lived in the gym. I never wanted to leave this gym. I wanted to be here forever and now I have that opportunity."
Skylar then sat courtside and watched as the Irish women defeated Valpo 96-46.
