As the Irish women's basketball team played host to California (PA) Wednesday night, a familiar face was in the house---Skylar Diggins.
Of course, Skylar wasn't there playing this time--instead she was in the stands cheering as a fan. Diggins graduated last year and now plays for the Tulsa Shock in the WNBA. With the Shock in the off-season, Skylar is back at home in South Bend visiting her family and her Notre Dame family.
'Being home is great," Skylar said at halftime of Notre Dame's 118-49 win. "I'm a big family person--everyone knows that and seeing all these fans--I missed them, I missed them and haven't seen them for a few months. It's good to be back home and I'm glad I live here to be a part of this. This is amazing. I'm seeing it from the outside looking in now and it was the best decision I ever made (to go to Notre Dame)."
Skylar is the first to admit, it felt a little strange to not be on the court playing.
"I feel like I'm back in high school again coming to a game here when I was in high school watching them play," Skylar says with a big smile. "I definitely miss it, I wish I had a 5th year."
Skylar was happy with what she saw on the court.
"The girls are doing great," Diggins says. "They look really good tonight."
Diggins is continuing to travel, train and do promotional work for the WNBA during the off-season.
