A tiny town is about to leave a big impact on the U.S. Post Office.

Silver Lake will make history Friday as the first Indiana community to open a post office in a town hall.

Silver Lake has a population of 915, making it a relatively low priority for a postal service with major financial troubles.

USPS started contracting with local businesses last year in order to help rural communities keep some version of postal service.

Silver Lake's current post office is only open 8 a.m. to noon. The town hall center will be open Monday through Thursday, from 9 to 5.
