Socrates Brito hit a 2-run homer and Braden Shipley pitched seven great innings as the South Bend Silver Hawks beat Great Lakes 5-1 to clinch the opening round series Thursday night at the newly renamed Four Winds Field at Coveleski Stadium.
The Hawks sweep the best of three series in three games and now advance to the Midwest League Divisional Finals where they will face the the Fort Wayne Tincaps in a best of three series. Game 1 is Saturday in Fort Wayne with games two and three back here in South Bend on Sunday and Monday. The winner of the series heads to the league championship.
Shipley, the first round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks, was fantastic. He gave one unearned run on just two hits while striking out four batters in seven innings of work.
