WASHINGTON The driver at the center of the lockdown on Capitol Hill Thursday, has been identified. That woman is 34-year-old dental hygienist Miriam Carey, from Stamford, Connecticut.
She was shot and killed by law enforcement after a high speed chase through the streets of D.C., ending near the capitol. The police, FBI and Secret Service are conducting an extensive investigation following the incident.
According to Mike McCaul of the House Homeland Security Committee those agencies think she had mental health issues.
During the chase and shooting, an 18 month old girl was in the back seat of the car. The child was not seriously injured, and is now in protective custody. The woman's motive is unknown.
