Closing time at an Elkhart County bar turned deadly when patrons hit the parking lot this morning.
One man was killed by a gunshot wound to the chest, while two women were wounded by flying bullets.
“We have detectives that are on scene that are collecting evidence as far as the crime scene goes,” said Capt. James Bradberry of the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department. “We have a number of detectives who are interviewing witnesses and those who may have been here at the time this happened, we also ask that if there’s anybody else that may have been here that we don’t even know about, if they could please call our department (574-533-4151).”
The shooting started shortly before 3:00 a.m. at the Gemini Bar and Grill off U.S. 33 near Dunlap.
Police have yet to make any arrests or take any suspects into custody, but they have identified the man who was shot to death as 25 year old Cordero Williams-El of Elkhart.
Williams-El was positively identified by his tattoos.
Two women in their early 30’s were also hit by bullets. Both women suffered a wound to the hand. Police are not identifying the female victims for the time being.
In the light of day, drops of blood appeared to be visible by the back door of the bar where police say the victim tried to re-enter.
“At this point it’s really early in the investigation so as far as to say what exactly happened and why it happened, we’re trying to determine that at this time. Hopefully through the witness testimony of those that have come forward we'll make some sense of what happened here this morning,” said Capt. Bradberry.
“I just hope that they find the persons and people responsible for this and hopefully, business won't suffer too much and they can move on,” said Demarco Robinson who had worked security at the bar until last April.
Police say there was a crowd in the parking lot when the shots were fired, but they couldn’t say exactly how many people were present.
