Shipshewana on edge during search for prison escapee

After police surrounded Shipshewana Monday, folks in the Amish community are happy to see things return to normal.

Elliot's first escape vehicle was found Monday afternoon in a subdivision.

Police sent out an alert to be careful and told businesses and homeowners to lock their doors.

For the small town it was pretty big news. Two schools were on lock down.

“We're such a close knit quiet community,” says Linda Gierek, owner of Gierek’s beads. “Not much happens and we have a strong faith. It's so quiet. Just not much ever happens and when something does happen, it puts everyone on alert.”

Police say the red Jeep had been sitting in the neighborhood since 5:30 in the morning but it wasn't reported until after noon.
