A sexually violent predator, originally wanted in LaPorte County, was arrested in Birmingham, Alabama Tuesday.
28-year-old Maurice Ward, has been wanted by the LaPorte County Sheriff's Office since December of 2012 for failing to register as a sex offender. He had also violated parole, and was wanted by the Indiana Department of Correction Parole Board.
According to a press release from the sheriff's department, Ward had been listed on the La Porte County Sheriff's Office Top Ten Most Wanted.
At this time, it's not known if Ward will face charges in Alabama, but he will be extradited back to LaPorte County to face criminal charges and to answer charges related to his parole violation .
In 2004, Ward was convicted of criminal confinement, a class B felony, which labeled him as a Sexually Violent Predator. He was also convicted in 2010 for failure to register as a sex offender. Since his release from prison, Ward was supposed to register quaterly on the Indiana Sex and Violent Offender Registry. But he failed to notify law enforcement and his parole officer that he changed his address and was no longer living at 702 1/2 Popular Street in Michigan City.
