ELKHART Sewer upgrades in Elkhart will cost slightly less than the city originally thought.

They had planned to spend more than $23 million, but the Board of Works accepted bids Tuesday night totaling less than $20.5 million.

According to The Elkhart Truth, $7 million will go toward installing a million gallon sewage tank, which will be placed under a parking lot at the intersection of Jackson Boulevard and Waterfall Drive. The city will spend $10 million on upgrades to the wastewater treatment plant, and another $2 to $3 million will go to engineers, inspectors, and other miscellaneous expenses.

The construction should start after the 4th of July and finish by September 2015.
