The intersection of Lincoln Way E and Sample was closed midday Monday as crews worked to piece together a serious crash that occurred around 10:00 a.m.

According to police, 60-year-old Jerry K. Sailor was driving his moped southbound on Sample and stopped at a traffic light.

According to a witness, the moped suddenly jerked forward, but before Sailor could back up, he was struck by a semi.

Sailor, who was not wearing a helmet, was pulled under the semi.

Emergency crews transported him to a local hospital, but Sailor died as a result of severe blunt force trauma to the head.
