September is Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month, and the Food Bank of Northern Indiana is asking people to take part through this message: advocate, educate, donate and volunteer.

According to the Food Bank, 16% of the people in Northern Indiana are food insecure, meaning they don't know where their next meal will come from. Sadly, 44% of those are children who don't get enough to eat.

The Food Bank hopes to bring awareness through their campaign, Go Orange for Hunger Day on Thursday.

And one local grocer is hoping to help that mission. Meijer has been giving back to communities around the Midwest through its Simply Give program. For every $10 donation card purchased, Meijer will double its contribution.

September 5-7 is Double Match Days, meaning for every $10 donation, Meijer will "double give," bringing the total donation to $30 per card.

Local food pantries across the area benefit from the campaign. Each Meijer store picks a different food bank to give donation cards.

To donate online or learn more, click here for a link. Or, pick up a Simply Give Card at your local Meijer Retailer.
